For over 10 years, Smyrna Rotary has been a supporter of the City of Smyrna's Memorial Day and Veterans Day events and more to honor our community's veterans. These are wonderful, free events that attract hundreds to over a thousand people. As an example, a few details follow for the 2015 Veterans Day events.
One of the many ways in which we honor Seniors (and, in some cases, the younger members of our society) is at Veterans Day and Memorial Day. For November 11, 2015, Smyrna Rotarian Raymond Coffman organized a Veterans Day event at 9:00 am at Wellstar Hospital. The program featured Wellstar President Amy Carrier, Smyrna Rotarian Narayan Sengupta, USAF Chief Master Sgt. Robert Walker, age 94, and Raymond himself. Walker spoke of his WWII experiences. Turnout was 60 to 100, of whom about half were veterans. Smyrna Rotary salutes all American veterans. Here are some photos:
2015 - Smyrna Rotary Club recently completed a fundraising project for Food for Veterans in Cobb in conjunction with Smyrna-based Operation Soldier at Ease. Most of the Veterans were Seniors, so this was very important to us. The project, managed by Smyrna’s President Nominee Sean Tintle resulted in approximately 50 bags filled with an average of $10 per bag of non-perishable foods. The project also raised $300 in cash, which Operation Soldier at Ease was able to leverage to purchase many more meals worth of food from a food bank.
Smyrna Rotary is always looking for the community's business and service leaders. For more information about the club or membership, please email f12@nfiweb.com.
